Cords4Life (UK) started in March 2013 and is based in Kidderminster, England.
It was started as Charlie Harris-Beard’s legacy, after he sadly lost his life to ‘Acute Myeloid Leukaemia’ (AML) in February 2013 under the age of 3 years old. During his illness, Charlie underwent a stem cell transplant from an umbilical cord donation from the USA. It was because of this that his parents Joe and Fiona wanted to campaign and raise awareness of umbilical cord donation in the UK, therefore starting up Cords4Life.
The charity has a main mission; to raise vital awareness of umbilical cord donations for public cord donation centre’s available within hospitals across the UK, with the hope of one day funding their own cord blood bank. They raise awareness, support patients and families at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, promoting awareness of early blood cancer diagnosis, fundraising and finally, working in partnership with medical professionals and other charities to achieve their ongoing targets.
